Space Time Continuum
(Originally posted June 2, 2014)
It happens to every person that works in production - you lose time. Long days and odd hours would cause anyone to get confused on what day it is. Some days are so long you know what day it is when you wake up, but around the 14th hour of working you either skip ahead a day or slip back a day. Right now as I write this I know it should be Friday but it feels like Wednesday...weird.
As one becomes seasoned in this industry, you know what time you need to be somewhere and get there on time but you don't really know what day it is. With smart phones and an endless amount of alarms you can set there is no reason to be late anywhere - it's the days that are hard to keep up with. I just know I have to work a show tomorrow, what day is tomorrow? I have no clue!
Now that I only do shows without having a 9 to 5 to also report to - I really don't know what day it is. I thought I would be better at keeping up with what day it is, but I think I'm worst. Sometimes there are comical moments where I don't know where I'm suppose to go - it takes about a minute to snap out of it but it is a very long minute. My recent comical morning experience: I got home from one venue around 2am after working 10 hours, my alarm went off at 5:30am to get to another venue by 7am and I had no idea where I was, what day it was or where I had to go. Falling out of bed yelling "OH NO" I quickly stood up with a confused and scared look on my face...
...after about 20 seconds I figured out where I was going, but I still didn't know what day it was.
Now my only way of keeping track of where to go everyday is google calendar. I don't know what I would do without it.
Cheers!
P.S.
This post doesn't actually have anything to do with space time continuum; I just love Back to the Future.
