Source Matters

(originally posted January 30, 2013)

Had to cover a performance in a small venue with a house sound system that in is in need of some maintenance. Making due with what I had I must say the sound was......amazing!

Not all because of me but because the lead singer was great. In doing sound for different artist all the time I have learned not all "singers" can sing. Its always a pleasure to work with someone who actually takes pride in music and makes me as a sound engineer remember why I started in this field in the first place. On top of that she wasn't a jerk and very personable. The group was a quintet including a pianist, female vocal/guitar, male vocal/guitar, lead vocal and a flutist. Great ensemble, only coming together for this special performance which was noticeable on some of the harmonies but still a nice intimate show. All performers were great; the lead vocalist though was a definite stand out. Also, I understood none of the lyrics to the songs; they were in Hebrew. A some what harsh sounding language to us Americans, I actually enjoyed it. Just goes to show no matter how good the equipment or what genre of music, the source matters.
